A high-speed pursuit that escalated to gunfire rocked Taylorsville on Wednesday evening. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, the chase began when troopers tried to stop a gray Subaru WRX clocked at excessive speeds on I-15 near 6000 South. The chase continued onto I-215 westbound before being called off as the car exited at Redwood Road.
Following the pursuit, authorities tracked the vehicle to a registered address in Taylorsville. Upon making contact with the residents there, "multiple shots were fired from within the home," as detailed in the public safety report. It's to be carefully noted, troopers did not return fire but instead strategically retreated and established a perimeter, securing the vicinity. In a harrowing attempt to flee, the suspect tried to drive off in another vehicle, but was quickly contained by the units on the scene and subsequently arrested.
No injuries were reported from the incident as the area was swarmed by multiple agencies to support. The thoroughfare surrounding the scene was sealed off to traffic, and the officials have indicated that, due to ongoing investigative work, road closures are expected to persist for extended hours. Officers continue diligently working to ensure the residence is cleared and the scene meticulously processed.
