In a recent development from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, 28-year-old Jasmine Bowen was arrested on allegations connected to a fatal overdose in 2024. IMPD News reported the arrest which was the result of a coordinated investigation by the Overdose Death Task Force (ODTF) and local authorities. Bowen was stopped by officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department last Friday, in Las Vegas, NV., during a traffic stop involving a vehicle without a license plate.
The chain of events began last year on March 15, when IMPD officers were called to a residence on Snowdrop Way where they discovered 31-year-old Trey Williams unresponsive. Medics pronounced Williams dead at the scene, and the Marion County Coroner's Office later attributed the cause of death to an acute overdose. Following an examination of the scene and collection of evidence, the task force, alongside Homicide Unit detectives, determined Bowen allegedly provided the deadly substances.
Upon identifying Bowen as the suspect, a probable cause affidavit was filed with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant last Thursday. The charges faced by Bowen include dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death and dealing in a narcotic drug. After her arrest, Bowen is set to be extradited to Marion County.
This arrest marks the seventh this year by ODTF for cases related to deadly overdoses. The successes of this specialized team result, in part, from collaborative efforts with other departments such as the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the IMPD's own Interdiction Unit, the Marion County Coroner's Office, and, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office. Despite the charges, it is important to remember that an arrest does not signify guilt. Jasmine Bowen, according to the official IMPD News release, "should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law." The case, documented under number IP240024168, remains pending legal proceedings.
