Authorities in South Florida have made a significant breakthrough in several cold case murder investigations with the recent arrest of nine alleged MS-13 gang members. According to Local 10, these arrests are linked to four gang-related homicides that took place in Broward and Palm Beach counties between 2014 and 2015, as announced by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.

During a news conference, Bondi described the gruesome nature of one of the murders where a man was lured into a vehicle, stabbed over 100 times, and then shot in the head. As Bondi stated in a WSVN report, no matter how long it takes or where they go, they will track them down and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. The operation, known as Operation Sombra De La Bestia or Operation Shadow of the Beast, was a coordinated effort between several law enforcement agencies, including the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.

In one particularly chilling case, FBI agents excavated a body buried in Oakland Park back in May 2021, where the land, which was undeveloped at the time of the burial, now has townhomes standing. Authorities have pointed to the notorious reputation of MS-13, a gang known for its extreme violence and that was designated as a foreign terrorist organization back in 2018 under then-President Donald Trump.

AG Bondi has emphasized that fighting MS-13 is a top priority for national security. Following the arrest of a high-ranking MS-13 leader in Virginia, she noted that America is safer with one of the top domestic terrorists off the streets. Since President Trump's administration began, the Department of Homeland Security has reported over 1,100 arrests of criminals and gang members, including about 39 suspected of gang affiliations. The President’s directive to Bondi has been clear: focus on keeping America safe.
