In celebration of National Public Library Week, the Kingsport Public Library is opening its doors wide to invite the community for a week-long series of events designed to showcase its diverse resources and services offered to the public. Acknowledged since 1958, National Public Library Week serves as an opportunity to highlight the important role of libraries in American society, a time when institutions across the country join forces under the advocacy of the American Library Association.

According to the City of Kingsport release, the series of events, organized by the Kingsport Public Library, includes activities that cater to different age groups and interests. "We invite the community to join in with the celebration," Library Manager Mary Thomas expressed in a statemen. Thomas encourages not only the regulars but even those who haven't stepped inside the library for some time, to dive back into the library's offerings.

The thematic invitation, "Drawn to the Library," couldn't be more appropriate as the library unveils its vast array of assets, such as a multitude of fiction and non-fiction books, audiobooks, and multitudes of multimedia resources. According to the same release, this also includes modern facilities like 3-D printers, which serve to highlight just how far libraries have come from their traditional book-lending roots.

Among the scheduled events are Spring Crafternoon on Monday next week, a chance to engage in family fun with spring-themed crafts, and Pet the Cat on Tuesday next week where preschool and elementary aged children can delve into the delightful world of Pete the Cat through crafts and activities. The week also caters to career-focused individuals with a Job Skills Workshop on Friday next week, assisting job seekers or those wishing to upskill, hosted by the Vocational Rehabilitation Program Community Services Unit. The library not only becomes a center for intellectual endeavor, but a space where practical life skills are honed, and community bonds are solidified.

Kingsport Public Library’s National Public Library Week events also include an intriguing Tiny Food Sculpting session suitable for grades 6 through 12 on Thursday next week and a Craft with Me event tailored for younger children on Saturday next week. "Whatever draws you in, the library has something for everyone," Thomas said in the City of Kingsport release. Whether it's for personal growth, business development, family or downtime, the library stands ready as a beacon for all phases of life's journey.
