Early Thursday morning, a fire swept through an empty house on Lenox Avenue in Las Cruces, bringing firefighters out to battle the blaze. The City of Las Cruces reported that the call came in around 7:30 a.m. yesterday, and upon arrival, crews were met with smoke billowing from the back of the structure.
The home, positioned up a slope away from the street, presented challenges for the first responders who stretched hose lines over the tricky terrain. Despite this, the fire was subdued in less than 20 minutes, a testament to the skill and quick action of the Las Cruces firefighters. The property, no one was inside at the time, sustained damage from the fire and smoke, although a majority of the impact was confined to the building's contents, according to the fire department's statement.
Authorities have stated that there were no injuries as a result of the incident. As of now, the investigation into what sparked the fire is still ongoing, and there is no estimate on the cost of the damages the home endured.
