Early this morning, Martinsville was rocked by a residential fire that claimed the life of an individual and left another in critical condition. The blaze, which was reported around 2:00 a.m., drew a rapid response from local firefighters. According to an announcement by the City of Martinsville, the fire occurred in the 900 block of South Grant Street where the Martinsville Fire Department, alongside assisting teams, fought to quell the flames and rescue the occupants.
Rescue operations were immediately launched, with the first-arriving units carrying out a primary search of the residence. They rescued two adult victims caught in the blaze. Morgan County EMS quickly administered medical care, transporting one of the victims to a hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition—tragically, the second individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
