Medford is setting the bar a little higher for outdoor family fun by announcing its first TRACK Trail, which will be gracing Prescott Park. According to the City of Medford's news release, this half-mile stretch is expected to transform into a haven of educational adventure by the end of June, thanks to partnerships with Oregon Parks Forever and Kids in Parks.
The TRACK Trail program is way more than just a simple path—it's a nationwide initiative that's already boasting 313 trails, 19 of which are right here in Oregon. Installation of similar trails in Ashland's Lithia Park and McGregor Park is on the agenda for later this spring. But Medford's addition is not just another notch in the state's eco-belt—it's a paved ticket for kids from grades 1 through 6 to dive into interactive, hands-on exploration designed to pique their natural curiosity about the great outdoors.
A 5-2 vote by the Parks and Recreation Commission sealed the deal for this project on March 25, as reported by the city's news release. Oregon Parks Forever is flexing its financial muscle to light up the trail with a 36-by-24-inch sign, a trail-specific webpage, brochures that pop with color, and even some nifty stickers and prizes for the kids who get involved and register.
