In an era where the prevalence of firearms in America is a hotly debated issue, the Memphis Police Department is tackling the problem of gun theft with a community-focused approach. In a recent social media post, Colonel Tuznik of the Ridgeway Station emphasized the importance of gun owners keeping their weapons secure and out of the hands of criminals.
"Keep Your Firearm Secure – Don’t Leave It in Your Car!" is the message Colonel Tuznik is spreading to remind firearm owners that maintaining control over their weapons is paramount, the numbers showcase an encouraging trend this year, with 103 fewer guns stolen from vehicles in the first quarter compared to last year, demonstrating that active measures can indeed make a difference in the fight against gun theft. However, to continue to build on this progress, the police say that the collective action of the gun-owning public is vital.
The department's proactive steps are a reflection of a greater need to curb the incidents that often lead to violent crimes when guns fall into the wrong hands. Colonel Tuznik in an effort to guide the residents, provided a number of tips on how to secure firearms. "Don’t leave your gun in your car. Take it inside, lock it up, and keep it safe," he advised. For times when firearms must be left in vehicles, he urges owners to utilize a lockbox.
