Homicide detectives from the MDSO were reportedly carrying out surveillance operations at a local hotel on an individual tied to a fatal double shooting the day before. The situation escalated quickly when the subject attempted to hastily get into his vehicle, prompting detectives to swiftly move to apprehend him. The attempted arrest led to an exchange of gunfire wherein the subject was struck. Despite immediate response from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the subject was pronounced dead at the scene.
No members of the sheriff's office sustained injuries during the altercation. Inside the vehicle of the deceased, detectives located a firearm, further details of which have yet to be disclosed.
