This Memorial Day weekend, Miami's Deering Estate is honoring service members past and present with reduced admission prices. Visitors are invited to explore the serene grounds and partake in a range of activities amid the historical and natural splendor of the estate. On May 24, 25, and 26, general admission will drop to $8, encouraging families to gather under the Royal Palm trees for a picnic by Biscayne Bay, as per the county's website.
To further inhabit the leisure of this holiday, guests can engage in scheduled tours, including a Museum Tour at 11:30 a.m. and a Nature Preserve Tour at 12:30 p.m. Additionally, the estate's Richmond Cottage Garden Room is currently hosting “To Be Dwellers With This Land,” the Contemporary Currents Exhibition by Pangea Kali Virga. According to a Miami-Dade County press release, tickets are available online, with special free entry to Deering Estate Foundation Members and toddlers under the age of three.
The Deering Estate, a national landmark, is more than just a house museum. It doubles up as a cultural and ecological hub, providing invaluable scientific and archaeological work in conserving its local ecosystems. Situated at 16701 SW 72 Ave. in Miami, the estate fosters a blend of recreational and cultural experiences, nestled within its 450 acres of diversified terrain.
Active duty military personnel, as well as up to five family members, can enjoy to freely visit the estate freely as part of the Blue Star Museums program from Armed Forces Day, May 17, until Labor Day, September 1. This initiative complements the work of the Deering Estate Foundation, which since 1989 has worked to safeguard and enrich this historical Miami-Dade County “Heritage Park” for future generations.
