Early this morning, a successful sting by Milton police led to the apprehension of three individuals connected to a series of mail thefts. In the cool dim of the pre-dawn, detectives moved swiftly after numerous reports of stolen checks from USPS mailboxes in the area. As outlined in a social media post by the Milton Police Department, one suspect complied with arrest, but the remaining two fled, prompting a chase.
The chase ended not far from point of escape, where the suspects had abandoned their vehicle. A foot chase ensued, and the Milton Police Patrol Units, bolstered by the Massachusetts State Police K9 unit, successfully cornered and detained both fugitives. In their possession were approximately 300 stolen letters and postal property, a weighty testament to the extent of their alleged operations.
Now awaiting arraignment at Quincy District Court, the trio have been slapped with multiple charges. Ranging from "Breaking and Entering into a Depository" to "Multiple Motor Vehicle Violations," the severity and breadth of the charges reflect the gravity the authorities place on mail theft and its implications on personal security.
