A Miramar High School student was arrested after bringing an unloaded gun onto the campus early this morning. Security personnel at the school, located at 3601 SW 89th Ave., efficiently detected the weapon as the student went through a metal detector, subsequently confiscating the firearm, according to NBC Miami.
No ammunition was found with the student, and the incident did not result in any threats or injuries, as officials told Local 10. The identity of the student and the extent of charges they faces remain undisclosed as Miramar Police Department continues to investigate the origin of the gun.
In a proactive outreach to the school community, Principal Winfred Porter addressed parents and guardians in a message, emphasizing the absence of any immediate danger and the swift action taken by the school's security team. "The student will face appropriate school disciplinary measures," Porter said, according to the report by Local10. Furthermore, he urged families to openly discuss the grave ramifications of bringing weapons to school and to encourage their children to report suspicious activities.
