A multi-state investigation is underway after a 14-year-old Pennsylvania girl, missing for three months, was found safe in North Georgia, as reported by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the teenager was originally reported as a runaway in January and her recovery this week by the Jasper Police Department has prompted further action from authorities. While the girl received medical care and additional resources, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has yet to release details of the circumstances leading to her discovery or any related arrests.
The GBI highlighted that the investigation remains "active and ongoing," noting the cooperative nature of the probe that spans beyond Georgia. Jasper, the location where the teen was found, lies approximately 820 miles from Pennsylvania, indicating the extensive reach of the criminal network suspected to be involved. In a nod towards public vigilance, officials have urged anyone with information to contact the GBI’s Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) Unit, via telephone or through their online tip portal, as underlined by 11Alive.
The discovery of the missing teen coincides with initiatives led by Georgia's First Lady Marty Kemp, who is actively working to combat human trafficking in the state. Kemp has introduced legislation aimed at eliminating sentencing ambiguities for traffickers, a bill reflective of Georgia's commitment to lead in the fight against such crimes. Despite this progress, the specific relationship, if any, between Kemp's efforts and the recent case remains unclear.
For the public's convenience, Georgia has established a dedicated hotline, 1-866-ENDHTGA, to field such reports.
