Last night, Chula Vista became the scene of a tragic collision that claimed a life and disrupted others. According to a press release sent via email from the Chula Vista Police Department, multiple calls were received at approximately 5:37 pm about a crash involving a motorcycle and an Audi at the intersection of East Orange Avenue and Max Avenue.
Initial reports say a 2006 Kawasaki ZX-6R, heading eastbound on East Orange, struck the passenger side of a 2023 Audi Q3. The Audi was turning southbound onto Max Avenue from the West Orange direction. The motorcyclist, a 47-year-old individual from Chula Vista, was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts to provide lifesaving measures quickly. The driver of the Audi, identified only as a 34-year-old pregnant woman also from Chula Vista, remained at the scene and was cooperative with the authorities. She was taken to UCSD with minor injuries, which appear to have been done simply as a precautionary measure. There was also a 1-year-old passenger in the Audi who sustained minor injuries.
As details continue to unfold, the cause of the clash between the motorist and the rider has yet to be determined. The Chula Vista Police Department's Traffic Bureau has been tasked with this investigation, piecing together the circumstances that led to this unfortunate event. Alcohol and drugs are not considered factors at this stage, steering the conversation towards other potential causes such as road conditions, vehicle malfunction, or human error.
The name of the deceased is being withheld as officials wait to notify family members. Anyone with information related to the incident, be it a witness or someone with pertinent details, has been asked to contact the Chula Vista Police Department Traffic Bureau at 619-476-5303.
