The weather in Nashville continues to battle with the elements as the area faces potential flooding due to ongoing rainfall. The National Weather Service in Nashville has issued a Flood Watch, as of 11:20 a.m. CDT yesterday, which remains in effect through Sunday morning. Areas in Middle Tennessee could experience flooding, specifically within the counties of Cheatham, Clay, and others, due to excessive rainfall that may lead to rising streams and rivers. The watch cautions that flooding may occur in urban areas or locations with poor drainage and advises residents to prepare to take action if necessary.
In concurrence with the flood watch, a Flood Advisory has been enacted for the Stones River near Donelson as the river level holds at 25.0 feet and is still rising. This has resulted in the Stones River Greenway becoming impassable in places between Percy Priest Dam and Lebanon Road, and inundation of several park areas. Residents are advised to avoid these areas and seek alternate routes where necessary.
Similarly, the Cumberland River at Omohundro Water Plant is experiencing elevated river levels prompting another Flood Advisory warning. Water has started to cover parts of Shelby Bottoms Park due to the river's rise. According to the advisory by the National Weather Service, at 35.0 feet, low lying areas along both sides of the river are inundated, which includes portions of the aforementioned park. The NWS encourages the public to keep abreast of updates and stay vigilant for water-covered roadways.
Moreover, the Harpeth River at Bellevue is on the NWS's radar, leading to yet another flood advisory notice. With river levels projected to reach 17.4 feet, flooding along the Harpeth River is expected to affect various roads and possibly nearby properties. The advisory mentions that at 20.0 feet, flooding impacts many roads and water begins to impact properties adjacent to the river. Residents are recommended to be aware of the rising water, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Across these advisories, the recurrent theme is one of preparation and caution. With the NWS in Nashville closely monitoring the situation, residents are continuously advised to monitor weather forecasts and heed any additional warnings. Those residing in the mentioned flood watch and advisory zones should be prepared to respond quickly in case of further flooding developments in their respective areas.
