Nashville police are still piecing together the tragic events of an April 4 crash that claimed the lives of two taxi passengers, and they're seeking additional evidence from the public. In the early morning at the intersection of 12th Avenue and Demonbreun Street, a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee collided with a Toyota van taxicab, killing Kirk Granfors, 64, and Kathy Granfors, 68, of Jacksonville, Florida. Metropolitan Nashville Police Department reports that the taxi, according to witnesses, had the green light when the accident occurred.
Authorities identified George A. Chaney, 37, of Nashville, as the sole occupant of the Jeep found at the scene. Investigators say that after the crash, Chaney attempted to flee but was apprehended due to his injuries. Following treatment at a local hospital, he was arrested on an outstanding parole violation warrant. The investigation, however, continues as it's still unclear who was driving the Jeep at the time of the incident. The police have called upon witnesses with video or photos of the crash to step forward, hoping such evidence could fill in the missing details.
In statements provided to the press, the Nashville Police underscored the potential value of any footage bystanders may have captured. "Officers are pursuing leads as they work to confirm who was driving the Jeep and believe bystander video or photos could help," conveyed the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
