Big-box retail enthusiasts and bulk-buy bargain hunters in Miami-Dade County have reason to celebrate, as Costco Wholesale Corp. is confirmed to be expanding its footprint with a new store in the area. According to Local 10 News, the company recently filed a pre-application for a parcel of land just west of Dolphin Mall, poised to be its fifth location in the county.
Costco's plans include a 159,000-square-foot warehouse on a 20-acre site currently under contract, adjacent to Topgolf Doral at 11850 N.W. 22nd St. This endeavor marks the second new Costco to quickly follow another, which received the green light last May when the Miami-Dade County Commission opted to sell a county-owned parcel in South Miami-Dade at a sales price that sparked debate. Analysts suggested the $8.1 million figure was significantly lower than the property's assessed value, which the company has to assess facing increased membership costs introduced last September.
The addition of yet another Costco store underscores the wholesale giant's aggressive expansion in Florida's most populous county, a development also noted by Bizjournals. The company's growth comes amid last year's price hikes for its Gold Star and Executive memberships by $5 and $10 respectively, alongside the installation of new membership scanning devices at the entrance of their warehouses.
