A tragic scene unfolded in North Lauderdale where an overnight double stabbing resulted in one woman's death and left her daughter in critical condition. According to WSVN, the incident took place in the 1800 block of Runners Way. The Broward Sheriff's Office reported that they found the victims at the scene and they were quickly transported to the hospital. Sadly, one of the women, identified by family members as 52-year-old Maguy Pouye, did not survive.
The Broward Sheriff's Office has not officially named a suspect. However, family members told WSVN that the attacker was Pouye’s former boyfriend, who was captured on Ring surveillance video entering Pouye’s home early Saturday morning and running out shortly afterwards. In the chilling audio from the video, a woman's voice is heard screaming, “Call 911! I’m dying,” which loved ones have attributed to Pouye.
Their neighbor, Yolanda Franklin, expressed disbelief over the violent incident to WSVN, saying, “I’m without words, 'cause that’s never happened in this neighborhood.” A woman interviewed by NBC6 echoed the sentiment, stating she had lived in the area for nearly two decades without witnessing such an event. "My mind just went blank, I probably didn't know what to think because again, like I said, since it's unusual in this community in that instance you're not thinking," she said.
Pouye, a healthcare worker, was remembered as a caring and supportive individual. Amidst the shock and grief, the community is grappling with the loss of a woman described as the glue of her family, while her daughter continues to battle for her life in the hospital. The Broward Sheriff's Office is actively investigating the stabbing. They urge anyone with information to come forward and contact Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Tips can be provided anonymously, and there may be a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
