Oregon's Governor Kotek has earmarked April 13-19 as the official Telecommunicators Appreciation Week across the state, in a nod to the public safety telecommunicators' round-the-clock commitment to the welfare of Oregonians. As reported by the Oregon Department of Emergency Management, these individuals are to thank for the nearly two million emergency calls answered each year, always being the pivotal first contact for those in dire straits.
This dedicated week is no mere formality; it brings to light the steadfast efforts of telecommunicators who tirelessly work to always keep connected to emergency services. "The past year brought numerous and ongoing challenges, and Oregonians have relied on the unwavering dedication of telecommunicators to answer emergency calls and dispatch help quickly," Erin McMahon, OEM Director, said in a statement. Their roles significantly extend beyond just picking up 9-1-1 calls, also supporting various essential operations across government agencies.
Telecommunicators play a crucial, behind-the-scenes role in keeping the cogs of public safety turning smoothly. They serve as the crucial link amidst crisis, ensuring that assistance reaches those in need without missing a beat. Their service scope is vast, touching upon aspects like Emergency Management, highway safety, and search and rescue, among others.
Observing Telecommunicators Appreciation Week goes beyond state lines; it is a recognition celebrated both nationally and internationally.
