A tense situation unfolded at a Northwest Side apartment complex in San Antonio yesterday night, resolving earlier today without harm. According to KTSA, police were called to the scene on USAA Boulevard near Huebner Road after receiving a call regarding a domestic disturbance involving a man, a gun, and a young child.
After a domestic dispute, a man in his 20s and his girlfriend, the child was left behind in the man's care. The woman, after leaving the apartment, returned with a friend only to be met with the father of her child wielding a firearm. According to KSAT, the woman and the friend left the premises and reached out for help, subsequently triggering the standoff with law enforcement.
San Antonio police responded by cordoning off the area and initiating negotiations with the man. These negotiations continued for several hours, broadcasted by the early morning silence, eventually leading to the man exiting the apartment while carrying his 2-year-old child. The officers on scene reported that the man put down his weapon and surrendered peacefully.
Fortunately, the child involved was unharmed and quickly examined by EMS workers at the scene. The suspect was taken into police custody, and while his identity has not been released, the events of the night encapsulated a community's sigh of relief.
