Following a domestic violence call, Pittsfield Police Department officers embarked on an extensive search that concluded with the apprehension of Terrell Ortiz, aged 45, from Pittsfield. The incident occurred last Wednesday night, with officers arriving on the scene around 9 PM. After fleeing on foot, Ortiz was suspected of being armed, which later events confirmed.
The search involved multiple units within the Pittsfield Police Department, spanning patrols to K9s. The official social media account of the Pittsfield Police Department detailed that Ortiz was spotted entering a driveway on Francis Ave right before police contact, and, despite an initial frisk yielding nothing, a subsequent search by officers and a K9 revealed a stolen firearm. "Officers discovered that during the altercation a firearm was displayed, and the suspect had fled on foot," the Pittsfield Police Department statement read.
The handgun found was loaded and a check confirmed that it had been reported stolen from Clarksburg, MA back in 2017. Ortiz's arrest was predicated on several charges including "A&B Family Household, A&B Dangerous Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Ammunition w/o FID Card, Receiving Stolen Property" as per information from Pittsfield Police Department.
After being detained, Ortiz was held on $5,000 bail. He faced arraignment at the Pittsfield District Court the following morning. The Pittsfield Police Department hailed the collective efforts that led to the arrest, recognizing "Patrol, Drug Unit, Anti-Crime Unit, and K9 Unit all working together to apprehend this dangerous individual."
