A South Euclid homeowner experienced a potential nightmare when their Kia Sorento, subject to an active recall, caught fire in their garage yesterday morning. The South Euclid Fire Department responded quickly to the call at approximately 7:00 a.m. to a house on Farnhurst Road. According to a social media post from the department, the car was already "well involved" in flames upon their arrival.
The fire department managed to extinguish the fire quickly, and fortunately, the damage was contained primarily in the garage area. The owner reported to the fire officials that the vehicle had an "active recall for an issue with a relay."
No one was injured during the incident—neither the residents nor the firefighters battling the blaze. Mutual aid was necessitated from the Cleveland Heights, University Heights, Richmond Heights, Lyndhurst, and Beachwood Fire Departments to effectively contain and eventually extinguish the fire.
