A significant bust occurred on Interstate 5 when U.S. Border Patrol agents confiscated over 90,000 pills of Xanax, a controlled substance known for treating anxiety and panic disorders. The incident occurred last Wednesday, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The agents, stationed near Camp Pendleton and part of the San Clemente Station, halted a black pickup truck heading north. An interview with the driver and assistance from a K-9 unit, which signaled the potential presence of narcotics, led to the discovery of the drugs. It happened to be 11 boxes of pills labeled as Farmapram, which is recognized as the Mexican equivalent of Xanax.
Upon unearthing the packages, which contained a total of 90,090 pills, it became evident that the street value of the seized substances exceeded $600,000. Consequently, the driver, the narcotics, and the vehicle were placed in the custody of the Drug Enforcement Administration."This seizure sends a clear message: we will not tolerate dangerous drugs on our streets," said Jeffrey Stalnaker, the Acting Chief Patrol Agent of the San Diego Sector, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. "Our agents work around the clock to shut down drug trafficking operations and to protect lives."
