In a noteworthy move to bolster support for military families, the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) recently unveiled the Military Child Care in Your Neighborhood-PLUS (MCCYN-PLUS) initiative. Backed by Department of Defense funds, this program strives to widen childcare options that are within reach and light on the wallet. MCCYN-PLUS is essentially a power-up version of the longstanding MCCYN effort, now incorporating providers from the local San Diego Quality Preschool Initiative (SDQPI), as reported by the San Diego County Office of Education.
The expanded initiative promises to add heft to the range of eligible child care providers, a key concern in areas running short on nationally accredited options. Military families eager to ensure their little ones are in good hands can hop onto MilitaryChildCare.com, a DoD request-for-care site to scour for and snag an approved provider. Here's the kicker: financial assistance can slash those pesky out-of-pocket expenses, with caps increasing to $1,800 monthly per child. "We recognize the sacrifices made by military families and are committed to providing them with the support they need," declared San Diego County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gloira E. Ciriza, per the San Diego County Office of Education.
The beauty of the initiative doesn't just lie in its cost-cutting prowess. By meshing with SDQPI, MCCYN-PLUS assures that quality care doesn't get the cold shoulder. This rings especially true for regions where high-caliber providers are scarce. It's a game-changer for active-duty military personnel, National Guard members, reservists, and DoD civil workers, catering to families stationed in 16 states and a county. Providers hitching a ride on the SDQPI bandwagon can flag themselves as available on MilitaryChildCare.com, after which a fee assistance administrator will reach out to take things forward.
