Last Saturday, San José experienced its ninth traffic fatality of the year when a solo vehicle collision occurred on San Tomas Expressway. According to the San José Police Department, a beige Nissan sedan carrying two adults veered off the road. It overturned, resulting in the death of a female passenger and severe injuries to the male driver.
The crash happened just south of Moorpark Avenue, around 9:01 PM. The male driver, who was later stabilized at a local hospital, will face charges of vehicular manslaughter once discharged. The identity of the deceased woman will be released following formal identification and family notifications by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office. Detective DelliCarpini of the Traffic Investigations Unit has called for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward, offering his contact details.
Local news outlet Hoodline reported that the accident caused significant interruptions. The northbound lanes of San Tomas Expressway were closed for hours between Williams Rd and Moorpark Ave to facilitate investigations and clean-up efforts. The disruption prompted an official advisory for drivers to seek other routes.
