Residents and visitors of Sandy Springs have a new reason to enjoy the great outdoors. The city announced its latest addition to the local greenway with the opening of the Springway Trail. The trail officially opens on Friday, May 2 at 1:00 p.m., marked by a ribbon cutting ceremony. Sandy Springs looks to fully integrate the engaging 1.88-mile trail segment into the community's recreational life.
The Springway Trail, serving as the first completed segment from the city's Trail Master Plan, ambitiously aims to seamlessly connect Morgan Falls Overlook Park to Roswell Road at Cimarron Parkway. Trail-goers can expect to literally traverse a scenic landscape, featuring an extensive boardwalk across Orkin Lake, and to be surrounded by new landscaping efforts. The project incorporates a wide-ranging suite of amenities, including pedestrian bridges and roadway realignments, which are just a part of the $8.5 million infrastructure investment made by the city and its partners.
According to the official City of Sandy Springs news release, the project saw collaboration between the city, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program, the PATH Foundation, and the Sandy Springs Conservancy. Notably, the trail project benefits from a substantial $3 million grant from the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program, underlining the project's importance for conservation and community engagement.
For those planning to attend the kickoff event, parking is available in the lot adjacent to the Morgan Falls Dog Park located at 100 Morgan Falls Road. The city encourages anyone looking for additional details to visit their website, offering complete information on the Springway Trail and its features. Prior to the event, potential visitors can start to virtually explore what they can expect to directly encounter once the trail opens to the public.
