David Knezevich had been arrested in May 2024 at Miami International Airport, following a flight from Serbia, and had been held without bond since. He pleaded not guilty and maintained innocence throughout the case, as reported in December 2024 by the Miami Herald, this despite the accumulation of evidence including suspicious rental car activity and fake messages purportedly sent from Ana's phone after her disappearance.
