During National Crime Victims' Rights Week, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Indiana took time to recognize individuals in law enforcement and victim advocacy who have dedicated their efforts to supporting victims of crime. As reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of Indiana, a total of 22 honorees were celebrated at a private ceremony organized on April 10, for their exceptional work and commitment to victim's rights and welfare.

In a statement obtained by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Acting United States Attorney John E. Childress praised the honorees for their "selfless dedication" and highlighted the importance of their work, saying, "This ceremony is a small token of our appreciation for those working tirelessly to ensure victims' voices are heard, guiding them through the often-complex federal criminal justice process, and providing critical resources and emotional support." The honorees encompassed a diverse group of professionals, including FBI special agents, victim advocates, and assistant U.S. attorneys, all of whom were selected for going above and beyond in their service to crime victims.

The ceremony included several award categories. The Federal Law Enforcement Victim Assistance Award was given to two FBI Special Agents, Vanessa Hassler and Russell Warlick, in recognition of their commitment to victim's rights throughout investigations. The Victim Advocate Award highlighted the frontline efforts of victim advocates such as Suzanne O’Malley from the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and Linda Crocheron and Jessica Zotz, both working to provide support and resources. The Assistant United States Attorney Victim Assistance Award was presented to Jayson W. McGrath and Peter A. Blackett for their advocacy and support of victims in the federal legal process. Support Professional Victim Assistance Award was granted to Sarah Helbig and Natoyia Sims for their logistical and administrative efforts combined with compassion towards victims.

Moreover, the Victim Assistance Trial Team Award was given to teams involved in U.S. v. Demetris Campbell and U.S. v. Angela Baldwin, signaling out the collective work in supporting victims through the trial process. This included efforts from team members such as Tiffany J. Preston, Carolyn Haney, Lawrence D. Hilton, Len Rothermich, Austin Sahly, Kayla Whitaker, Maurine Bwambok, Matthew Pankonie, Kathryn Olivier, Bradley Shepard, Andrew Willmann, Sarah Helbig, and Kathy Well. The focused collaboration of these professionals was instrumental in ensuring that victims were treated with dignity and their needs prioritized throughout the legal proceedings.
