Drivers in Anne Arundel County, take heed: The Anne Arundel Police Department has deployed six new speed enforcement cameras across various school zones, aiming to enhance safety measures for students. According to a FOX Baltimore report, these cameras, which went live this week, are monitoring areas that include Belle Grove Elementary, Linthicum Elementary, and four other schools. With a 15-day warning period in effect, the grace period is about to end, and citations will soon start appearing in the mailboxes of speedsters.

Implemented to promote safer roads for children's daily commutes, the cameras operate from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., as outlined by WBALTV. After the initial warning phase, violators traveling at 12 mph above the speed limit will find themselves $40 poorer. Rates of speed that might previously have gone unnoticed now face unwavering digital scrutiny.

According to WBALTV, one of the main goals validated by police spokesperson Marc Limansky is the endeavor to "change driver behavior," aiming to establish a consistent pattern of safe driving habits within school zones. With the recent installations, the county's camera count now stands at 31. Even non-school zone areas have received this treatment in the past, reflecting the department's commitment to making pedestrian-friendly streets a priority across the board.
