The city of St. Louis is preparing for a special election in the 8th Ward on July 1, following the vacancy left by Cara Spencer's transition from alderwoman to mayor. The Election Board announced key dates and requirements for candidates interested in running.
According to the St. Louis government website, candidates have until May 30 to file for candidacy. Party candidates will follow traditional nomination processes, while non-partisan candidates must gather at least 369 signatures, or 10% of the ward's registered voters from the recent mayoral election, to qualify.
Absentee voting will begin on June 3, providing flexibility for residents who cannot vote on election day. The Election Board, located at 300 N. Tucker Blvd., will handle filing and electoral inquiries ahead of the deadline.
