A previously deported man, Apolinar Lopez Honorato, has been arrested on charges of an alleged sex crime involving a 14-year-old girl, as per statements made by the Stuart Police Department. Honorato, 47, was apprehended yesterday after the young victim's mother reported to the authorities early Saturday that her daughter had been touched inappropriately by the man, who had been renting a room in the same residence as the family. CBS12 provided information on the arrest and Honorato's immigration status.
The investigation led detectives swiftly to establish probable cause and to then arrest Honorato, now facing charges for lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 16 years of age. It also came to light that Honorato is not only illegally present in the United States but had been previously deported, creating a layered complexity to his criminal and immigration status that law enforcement will have to carefully and seriously navigate. "What I do know is simply that he has been deported in the past," Lt. Brian Bossio with the Stuart Police Department told CBS12.
Following the arrest, the police department made sure to notify U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of the suspect's detainment and background, as noted in the WPBF report.
