The Broward County Sheriff's Office is actively searching for a suspect in the sexual assault of an 81-year-old woman, an incident that has shocked the Lauderdale Lakes community. According to Local 10, the attack occurred shortly before the early hours of 4:30 a.m. yesterday near Northwest 50th Avenue and Northwest 34th Street. Deputies arriving at the scene were greeted with the harrowing account of the victim, stating an unknown man overpowered her and proceeded with the assault.
Responding to the victim's cries for help, two individuals in the vicinity investigated the source of the disturbance, finding, according to the NBC Miami report, the assailant on top of the woman. The suspect managed to evade capture, fleeing the site before authorities could apprehend him. In an effort to identify the assailant, images from surveillance have been released by the BSO.
Detective Arielle Dickey has taken the lead on the investigation, urging the public to come forward with any details that could assist in the arrest of the suspect. The BSO spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis described the suspect as appearing homeless based on the surveillance images. "When deputies arrived on scene they met with the victim who stated that an unknown subject threw her to the ground and sexually assaulted her," St. Louis wrote, according to Local 10.
