Yesterday in El Cajon, a distressing incident unfolded when a vehicle struck two pedestrians, causing serious injuries. The two victims, a 33-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, were hit while crossing mid-block on North Second St. between Peach Ave. and Broadway, as reported by the El Cajon Police Department.
Emergency services, arriving shortly after 8:29 PM, discovered the couple in a dire condition, necessitating immediate transportation to Sharp Memorial Hospital. According to the police statement, the man, donned in dark attire and riding a BMX-style bicycle without lights, was accompanied by the walking woman. Both suffered major injuries, including facial fractures and internal brain bleeding for the man, leaving him in critical but stable condition; the woman sustained a broken collarbone and multiple abrasions.
The incident didn't involve a hit-and-run scenario. The 20-year-old driver stayed on the scene and cooperated fully with the investigating officers. An assessment led to the preliminary conclusion that neither alcohol nor drugs were at play in the accident. The vehicle, moving northbound, encountered the couple unexpectedly, causing the collision that led to their hitting the windshield.
