Two men have been left with serious injuries following a harrowing collision at an intersection in McHenry County, near Union. As reported by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, the incident involved a 57-year-old Woodstock man and a 69-year-old Huntley man whose vehicles were found mangled in a nearby field after the crash.
According to a report by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, the collision occurred at the intersection of Illinois Route 176 and North Union Road on Tuesday morning. A 2024 Lexus LX 600, driven by the older man, failed to stop at a clearly posted stop sign, entered the intersection, and struck a 2021 GMC pickup making its way westbound along Route 176. The result was catastrophic, causing both vehicles to veer off and end up in a field at the northwest corner of the intersection.
The drivers, though severely injured, were indeed fortunate to have their seat belts on and airbags deploy during the crash. The 69-year-old Lexus driver was taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital and is now in stable condition, as detailed by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
Meanwhile, the 57-year-old in the GMC had to be airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in serious but stable condition. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit has picked up the case and is delving into the details of the crash.
