The Utah Department of Transportation is soliciting public opinion on a proposed 10-mile extension of the Mountain View Corridor in Saratoga Springs, a move aimed at addressing the area's expected population boom. According to UDOT, the population in northern Utah County is projected to nearly triple by 2050, which has prompted the department to consider transportation enhancements. If the planned infrastructure does not materialize, engineers believe the morning commute could see an increase of 13 minutes, adding up to 27 minutes of delay each day.
The draft study, highlighted by a UDOT announcement, outlines a new freeway extension that would run from Cory Wride/Pioneer Crossing to Redwood Road near Pelican Point. The proposed extension not only aims to ease future traffic congestion by potentially diverting up to 22,000 vehicles off Redwood Road on weekdays but also offers an additional evacuation route for residents in southern Saratoga Springs, whose current main artery is Redwood Road.
To delve into the details of the proposed improvements and field questions from the community, UDOT has planned a two-pronged approach: an online public meeting via Zoom on April 29 from 6 to 7 p.m. and an in-person public hearing the following day. Interested parties can join the online meeting by visiting the project website or attend the in-person hearing on April 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lake Mountain Middle School in Saratoga Springs. UDOT will present the findings without any formal presentation in an open-house format. Extra information, along with materials displayed at the meeting, will be accessible online the day after the event.
