Union City has embarked on a venture to significantly bolster local healthcare upon breaking ground on a new Grady Health System emergency facility in South Fulton County. Aiming to address the spiking demand for urgent care, the operation will unfold at 5600 Campbellton Fairburn Rd., providing round-the-clock emergency services in an area where such resources have been sparse.

John Haupert, Grady's president and CEO, highlighted the urgency of the project, telling Union City's official website, "As metro Atlanta's population grows, so does the need for medical care, specifically emergency care in South Fulton." He also added that the "freestanding emergency department will allow us to serve this community by bringing exceptional care to patients right where they live." Residents of South Fulton who have long faced up to a 40-minute trek for emergency services will soon have a much-needed facility in their own backyard.

Mayor Vince Williams, alongside other council members, has witnessed the area's rapid development and expressed his anticipation for the benefits this facility pledges to extend to local families. By building a 20,000-square-foot emergency department with 16 bays, the emergency healthcare wing is slated to cater not only to adults but also to pediatric patients grappling with severe injuries or life-threatening conditions.

Grady's investment includes furnishing the facility with top-grade medical technology and staffing it with a dedicated cluster of healthcare professionals. Moreover, the site plans to incorporate a spectrum of essential services, including imaging, laboratory work, a pharmacy, and designated areas for both patients and staff, as reported by Union City's news release. To seamlessly receive patients brought by emergency medical services, an exclusive ambulance entrance is projected, accompanied by a helipad to facilitate urgently needed flight transfers to surrounding hospitals.

Grady's latest endeavor to enhance the healthcare framework of South Fulton is forecasted to reach completion and open doors in Fall 2026, marking a significant enhancement in the availability of quality emergency care within the region.
