Residents of West Ridge are on high alert as a series of criminal sexual assaults, armed robberies, and burglaries have been reported in their neighborhood, as indicated by an alert from the Chicago Police Department. The incidents occurred across several blocks and involved a suspect who purportedly gained entry into residences, in some cases assaulting the victims sexually while armed with a knife.
The crimes in question span from late December to late April, with locations including the 6200 block of N. Bell, the 2300 block of W. Arthur, and the 6200 and 6100 blocks of N. Artesian and N. Campbell Ave respectively. As noted on the Chicago Police Department's official website, the incidents primarily took place during the night or in the early morning hours.
The suspect has been described as an African American male aged between 23-35 years, standing around 5'8" to 6'1". He was seen wearing a dark hooded jacket, dark pants, dark shoes, and a face mask that partially obscured his face at the time of the crimes. It’s been reported that the offender may be using a bicycle to flee the scene.
Authorities are urging the community to take proactive steps to safeguard against these criminal acts. They advise immediate reporting of suspicious activities, maintaining vigilance, and securing surveillance equipment. Moreover, they stress the importance of not disturbing crime scenes and to call 9-1-1 right away if one witnesses an incident. The police have requested that, if possible, any available video surveillance of the events be preserved for detective use, enhancing the chances of capturing the perpetrator.
