
A Westport man, Steven Correia, is facing serious charges after being arrested last Friday on allegations of child sexual abuse. The Westport Police Department broke the news via a Facebook post. Correia, of Blossom Road, Westport, was brought in by local authorities after a joint effort by Westport Police Detectives and the Swansea Police Department, whose assistance helped lead to his capture.
Following an in-depth investigation, a felony arrest warrant was issued, culminating in several charges that include two counts of Rape of a Child with Force, Aggravated Rape of a Child under 12 and also the crime of Aggravated Rape of a Child over 12 these charges suggest a series of distressing violations that Correia is accused of committing. Additional allegations levied against him consist of two counts of Indecent A&B on a Child Under 14 and Indecent A&B on a Person 14 or Over, broadening the gravity and scope of his purported offenses.
The Westport Police Department's initial announcement also noted that Mr. Correia was initially held on $100,000 bail at the time of his arrest. However, after Correia's arraignment, the courts decided to order him held without bail, emphasizing the severity of the accusations pending a dangerousness hearing that was scheduled to take place today, at the Fall River Justice Center, a detail meant to outline the next steps in the legal process he faces.
