
Tragedy struck early Tuesday morning in North Lawndale as a young woman lost her life on the sidewalk in a fatal accident involving an SUV. The 25-year-old victim, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was hit when the vehicle jumped a curb at around 4:15 a.m., according to a report from the Chicago Sun-Times.
The incident occurred when a 21-year-old woman, driving an Acura MDX, traversed an alley off Lawndale Avenue, and while turning onto 13th Street, she hit a curb and veered onto the sidewalk where the victim was walking, the police said. Unfortunately, the collision caused multiple injuries to the pedestrian, and she was pronounced dead upon her arrival at Mount Sinai Hospital. The driver of the Acura was also taken to the same hospital suffering from a leg injury, and she is reportedly in fair condition.
The Chicago Police Department has taken the driver into custody, and charges are pending, according to the ABC7 Chicago report. The exact circumstances leading up to the tragedy are still under investigation as officials work to piece together the sequence of events that led to this unfortunate outcome.
