Over a dozen individuals were swiftly brought to safety when their 44-foot boat ignited on the Miami River this past Saturday. According to a report by WSVN, the U.S. Coast Guard and Miami Fire Rescue responded to the emergency, working in tandem to rescue the 13 people aboard and extinguish the fire.
The incident reportedly occurred at the mouth of the river, where the vessel was quickly engulfed in flames. The U.S. Coast Guard, alongside local police and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, managed to safely rescue all passengers without report of injury. Their efforts, as described by U.S. Coast Guard Southeast's Facebook page, were coordinated and efficient, preventing what could easily have escalated into a severe tragedy.
Following the rescue, a commercial salvage team was responsible for towing the damaged boat to a nearby marina for further inspection. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is currently investigating to determine the cause of the fire. Information posted to social media by the U.S. Coast Guard outlined how these teams managed to quickly contain what could have unfolded into a dire situation.
