A 15-year-old male juvenile has been charged with a slew of felonies in connection with two vehicular hijackings that occurred earlier this month in Chicago. According to a press release from the Chicago Police Department, the juvenile was arrested on Monday after being positively identified as the individual who, at gunpoint, hijacked a vehicle from a 19-year-old male.
Authorities have leveled one count of felony vehicular hijacking, one count of attempted vehicular hijacking with the aggravation of a firearm, and one count of aggravated battery in a public place against the young offender, as detailed by the Chicago Police Department. Charged on the 6300 block of S. Carpenter St., the teenager was amid residential surroundings when he was apprehended - an unlikely backdrop for such serious allegations.
The initial incident took place on May 13, in the 1100 block of S. Delano Ct. W in the city's 1st District. It is here that the 19-year-old victim was robbed of his vehicle. The following day, the same minor allegedly took part in another attempted vehicular hijacking and also committed an aggravated assault against a 29-year-old female victim in the 1100 block of S. Delano Ct. E, as per the details shared in the police department's charge release.
The suspect is currently in custody, facing these charges. The Chicago Police Department has not disclosed any further details regarding the case, advising that the investigation remains ongoing.
