In a distressing incident in Joliet, a 5-year-old child lies in critical condition after being shot by an 8-year-old relative. CBS Chicago details that the Joliet Police were alerted to the case following the mother's emergency dash to St. Joseph Medical Center with her wounded son. He had sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
The shooting unfolded late at night in a family home located in the 500 block of Dover Street, and according to the inquiry thus far, it was deduced that the 8-year-old managed to access a handgun within a bedroom, and as it transpired, used the weapon on the younger child, the initial call to the authorities was made around 12:11 a.m., as er FOX 32 Chicago. Despite the immediate response from the family, who drove the boy to the hospital, his condition necessitated an airlift to the University of Chicago Comer Hospital.
Following the incident, detectives interviewed all involved parties at the hospital and the crime scene, including the minor accused in the shooting.
