A Carpentersville man is under felony charges, including the alleged manufacturing of child pornography and criminal sexual assault, according to Kane County authorities. Federico A. Vega, Jr., 23, stands accused facing three counts of manufacturing child pornography, one count of criminal sexual assault, eight counts of possessing child pornography, and three counts of criminal sexual abuse. These charges come in the wake of an investigation that alleges Vega sexually assaulted a sleeping child back in 2017, when the victim was under the age of 13 and Vega was himself a minor, under 17, as was reported by FOX 32 Chicago.
Contained within the time frame between March 8, 2024, and April 23, 2025, authorities claim Vega possessed numerous images and videos of child sexual abuse material. Upon his arrest on April 29 in North Carolina, the awaited extradition to Illinois has left Vega currently held in the Craven County Sheriff’s Office in New Bern, N.C. According to the same report from FOX 32 Chicago, his next appearance in court remains unscheduled.
Adding to the details of this case, The Daily Herald reports that Vega, being a private first class in the Marine Corps stationed in North Carolina at the time of his arrest, is charged with misconduct dating back to a specific incident on May 28, 2017.
The Kane County Child Exploitation Unit, a collaborative effort consisting of the State’s Attorney’s Office and the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, spearheaded the investigation. They were assisted by the Carpentersville Police Department and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which, being stationed in North Carolina, Vega was a part of the Marine Corps as detailed by The Daily Herald.
