Chandler's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Division isn't slowing down when it comes to celebrating Juneteenth and Freedom Week, marking the occasion with not just one, but three community events that promise a mix of entertainment, cultural awareness, and social good - and everyone's invited. To kick things off, the fourth annual Culture Music in the Park will make its return on Saturday, June 14, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park West, featuring live tunes courtesy of Vaughn Willis & Ear Candy; go ahead, bring your lawn chair, relish in the musical vibes, and maybe indulge in some barbecue from the Kravins food truck while you're at it. As for those feeling thirsty, there's bottled water sold by the Black Student Medical Association, priced at just a buck-a-pop, with every single cent going to the organization.
Setting the stage for cultural enrichment, the DEI Division also supports the Miss Juneteenth Arizona Scholarship and Pageant, hosted by the South Chandler Self-Help Foundation, scheduled for Friday, June 13, at the Chandler Center for the Arts. The doors will swing open at 6 p.m., with the main event starting an hour later. Tickets are available online—a night to empower young women through learning, community service, and cultural cognizance, according to a city news release.
Last but not least, for those ready to mash up family and freedom celebrations, the Chandler Men of Action have the perfect combo—the Juneteenth Father’s Day Mixer on Sunday, June 15, at Singing Pandas Asian Restaurant & Bar. It kicks off at 2 p.m. and features live entertainment from Dee Dee Carson and the Unlimited Band, plus a first-come, first-served buffet-style appetizers, with drinks and entrees available for purchase.
