Chicagoans may need to grab their jackets before stepping out today, as the city anticipates a gradual transition from cloudy to sunny skies. According to the National Weather Service, the high is expected to reach near 55 degrees with a brisk northeast wind traveling at 15 to 20 mph and gusts reaching up to 30 mph. The chill doesn't end there; tonight's forecast suggests mostly clear skies with temperatures dropping to around 41 degrees.

For early birds tomorrow morning, a cold snap with gusty breezes is in store, potentially leading to patchy frost in some areas. "The coldest air is reserved for tomorrow morning," according to a FOX 32 Chicago report. As the skies clear later in the day, temperatures inland could rise to 60 degrees, while areas closer to Lake Michigan may experience temps lingering in the 50s.

As the weekend approaches, Chicago is gearing up for a notable warm-up. The National Weather Service forecasts that by Friday, the city will bask in sunny weather with a high near 59 degrees, while Friday night will remain mostly clear with a low around 46. Into the weekend, it's more of the same with mostly sunny conditions and a high near 69 degrees on Saturday.

Mother's Day will bring a welcome change with a forecasted high around 68 degrees, followed by a warm stretch into next week. "Skies will also be mostly sunny during this period with highs on Friday in the mid-60s, Saturday in the mid-70s, and Mother’s Day through next Tuesday around 80 degrees," shares FOX 32 Chicago. The next chance of rain is predicted to arrive on Tuesday afternoon, possibly bringing showers to the area.
