Chicago is on alert as a recent series of bold street and business robberies have rocked businesses in the 3rd District (Grand Crossing) and the 8th District (Chicago Lawn). According to the Chicago Police Department, the string of incidents occurred during the early hours of May 2, 2025. Businesses are being warned to stay vigilant after three male suspects, described as black, between 18 and 30 years old, and armed with a "Draco" style long gun, have been approaching victims on the street, demanding property, and escaping in a grey SUV Jeep.

The incidents happened at various locations around the South Side. The first robbery was at approximately 12:30 AM on the 4500 block of South Archer Avenue, and shortly thereafter, at around 3:25 AM, another incident occurred on the 1300 block of East 75th Street. The robbers struck again at about 6:00 AM on the 7100 block of South Merrill Avenue. In each, the offenders could be seen wearing black clothing, ski masks, black gloves, and a blue hoody, as detailed by the Chicago Police Department.

Given the seriousness of these crimes, the Chicago Police Department are urging the community to take precautions. Individuals are encouraged to always be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity immediately. If confronted by an assailant, the best course of action, as per the police, is to remain calm and try to recall any distinct physical characteristics that might help in identifying the criminals later. It's important not to chase after the assailants but instead, to contact the authorities promptly by dialing 9-1-1, and if possible, stay on the scene until they arrive.
