Residents of the 15th District are on high alert following an aggravated kidnapping incident that took place this past Sunday, May 25, at around 2:15 PM in the vicinity of the 0-100 block of N Lockwood Ave. The Chicago Police have issued a community alert to keep the public informed and to seek assistance in the case. According to the official police report, available on the Chicago Police Department's website, a young girl was taken from her backyard by an unidentified female and was carried across the street to a grocery store before being retrieved by a relative.
In a situation that could easily escalate to become more harrowing, the victim's relative managed to confront the suspect and safely return the child to her mother. This disturbing occurrence was fortunately caught on POD video, providing authorities with tangible evidence to aid their investigation. The community alert, published on May 26, explicitly describes the offender as a female, African American, between the ages of 20 and 25, who appears to be familiar with the Lockwood Ave and Madison St area.
While the alert stops short of urging citizens to intervene in potentially dangerous situations, it does encourage the public to be alert and report any sightings of the individual in question. The Chicago Police advise: "If you observe the offender, attempt to remain calm. Call 911 immediately and provide location, including any description, if safe and feasible." This proactive approach in seeking public cooperation mirrors the communal responsibility to safeguard the district's children and plays a critical role in the prevention of further crimes.
The active case number associated with this incident is JJ268584, and anyone with information can contact the authorities directly or anonymously.
