Commuters in DuPage County faced delays on Thursday morning following a semi rollover on Interstate 55. The incident, which occurred near Lemont Road in Woodridge, happened shortly before 9:15 a.m. and caused significant traffic backups, as reported by WGN-TV. Illinois State Police closed all northbound lanes of I-55 at Woodward Avenue, as well as the I-355 northbound lanes to I-55 northbound, while crews worked to clear the scene.
By approximately 11:00 a.m., authorities had managed to upright the truck, which was initially observed by SkyCam9 blocking all inbound lanes. Despite this progress, vehicles were still restricted to inching past the incident using the shoulder, causing delays along the interstate extending to Route 53. An extended period of road closure is anticipated, although the exact duration is yet to be communicated by officials.
Further clarifying the situation, ABC 7 Chicago indicated that the semi was the sole participant in the crash and reported no injuries stemming from the event. The truck rolled over near milepost 270, northeast of Interstate 355, according to Illinois State Police, but it was not immediately clear what led up to the crash.
