
Over the holiday weekend, a traffic incident in the Florida Keys led to the arrest of a 26-year-old Coral Springs man on multiple drug charges. According to CBS News Miami, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident occurred last Saturday, when an officer stopped a vehicle that was driving along the bicycle path on US 1 near Mile Marker 84 in Islamorada, around 7:35 p.m.
Michael Alejandro Lopez, the driver, was promptly arrested for a DUI and found in possession of drugs. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office stated that the substances included about 2.1 grams of cocaine and 3.4 grams of marijuana. Lopez got his charges of DUI, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and was transported to jail.
The arrest was corroborated by a Facebook post from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, which detailed that Lopez was stopped at approximately 7:34 p.m. for driving on what was clearly marked as a bicycle path. The discovery of the narcotics led to his arrest on the scene.
