An incident of horrifying violence unfolded in southwest Houston, culminating in a deadly shooting after a car crash during Thursday evening's rush hour. According to KPRC 2, the series of events began with a collision at the intersection of the Southwest Freeway and West Bellfort, where Isgandar Mustafev, driving a Toyota Prius, was hit by a gray Dodge Charger. "The light was green, and I was going, but he hit me like this, a T-bone," Mustafev recounted to KPRC 2.
The driver of the Charger then fled the scene, and soon afterwards, attempted to carjack a driver in a red Hyundai. During this botched carjacking, the suspect fired multiple shots at the driver, who despite being struck, managed to drive under the freeway and crashed into a pole at a Shell gas station. The driver was taken to Ben Taub Hospital where he succumbed to his gunshot wounds, as later reported by KHOU.
Further down the road, the fleeing individual, described as a Hispanic male, encountered a gray Audi, which he successfully carjacked. This violent spree not only claimed a life, but also caused several additional traffic collisions. "This is a tragic situation," said Lt. Larry Crowson, in a statement obtained by KPRC 2, "You have someone just going home from work, and they end up shot and killed. It’s very traumatic for everyone involved."
Houston Police Department are investigating the crime, gathering video and witness statements to identify the suspect. After failing to steal a Hyundai, the suspect carjacked a gray Audi. The Audi’s driver was not hurt. The suspect is still on the loose, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Houston Police or Crime Stoppers, as per KPRC 2. A bystander recorded the incident, and the video is being shared to help find the suspect.
